Strategic customer behavior in a queueing system with alternating information structure

Strategic customer behavior is strongly influenced by the level of information that provided to customers. Hence, optimize design queueing systems, many studies consider various versions same service model and compare them under different structures. In particular, two extreme are usually considered compared: observable in which customers informed about number system unobservable they only parameters, e.g., arrival rates. present work, we study a bridges these versions. More concretely, assume alternates between periods. We characterize compute equilibrium joining/balking strategies show unifies extends existing approaches both heterogeneously models with delayed observations. importantly, our findings indicate an alternating structure implies general higher throughput social welfare comparison cases. complement results numerical experiments provide managerial insight on optimal control parameters.
